This is IndusInd Bank's RuPay credit card built around UPI. Link it to apps such as BHIM, PhonePe, Paytm or Google Pay and scan and pay at merchant QR codes, earning 2 reward points per Rs 100 on UPI spends and 1 reward point per Rs 100 on non UPI spends, with an additional Rs 0.70 per Rs 100 value stated for select merchant categories. It also carries a 1% fuel surcharge waiver and travel insurance cover of Rs 2.25 lakh in total, including lost baggage up to Rs 1,00,000, loss of passport up to Rs 50,000 and delayed baggage, lost ticket and missed connection up to Rs 25,000 each. The annual fee is NIL in the bank's MITC, which is why the bank calls it lifetime free, but read the joining fee line carefully. The same MITC lists a one time joining fee of Rs 10,000 for this card and notes that actual fees will be conveyed at the time of application. There is no complimentary lounge access and foreign currency transactions attract a 3.5% markup, so the card works best as a domestic UPI spending card rather than a travel card.
What We Like
- No annual fee in the MITC, so there is no yearly fee to recover once the card is issued
- 2 reward points per Rs 100 on UPI spends, double the rate on non UPI spends, on a card that links to major UPI apps
- 1% fuel surcharge waiver at petrol pumps in India
- Travel insurance cover including lost baggage up to Rs 1,00,000 and loss of passport up to Rs 50,000, plus Total Protect cover against unauthorised transactions as described in bank articles
Watch Out
- MITC lists a one time joining fee of Rs 10,000, which is high for an entry level RuPay card, so check the fee conveyed on your application offer
- No complimentary airport lounge access and Priority Pass is not available on this card as per the MITC
- Foreign currency markup of 3.5% plus GST makes it costly for international spends, and fuel spends earn no reward points
MITC & Hidden Charges
