Cashback Cap Maxer
Every big cashback rate hides a monthly cap. This tool shows the exact spend needed to hit the cap, how much headroom you have left this month, and which card should take your spends once the cap is full.
Monthly cap
₹2,000
Rate
5%
Spend needed to max the cap
₹40,000
From 1 April 2026 the caps are split: a maximum of Rs 2,000 cashback on online spends and Rs 2,000 on offline spends per statement cycle (Rs 4,000 in total).
Once this cap is full, route your online spends here instead:
Caps verified on 21 October 2026 against issuer terms. Cashback beyond a cap usually falls back to the card base rate, which is why routing matters.
The cap is the real rate
Ask most cardholders what their card pays and they will quote the headline: 5%, 10%, even 25%. Ask what the monthly cap is and the conversation stops. Yet the cap decides your actual earnings far more than the rate does. A 10% card capped at Rs 1,200 a month pays a heavy spender less over a year than a boring 2% card with no cap. Banks know this, which is why caps are shrinking: SBI Cashback split its single Rs 5,000 cap into Rs 2,000 online plus Rs 2,000 offline from April 2026, Airtel Axis rebuilt its caps in April 2026 so the famous 25% category can never earn more than twice your 1% base cashback, and the new Eternal SBI Card shares one Rs 2,000 pool across Zomato, Blinkit and District instead of giving each app its own.
The Cap Maxer turns every cap into one plain number: the spend at which the good rate stops. Cross it early in the month and every further rupee in that category should move to a different card. The routing suggestions in the tool are calculated live from the effective category rates of the full Credwiser catalogue, all verified against issuer documents on 21 October 2026.
How to use the Cashback Cap Maxer
- Pick your card and benefit from the list: online spends, a partner category, UPI spends, or the special linked caps of the Airtel Axis card.
- Read the three numbers: the monthly cashback cap, the rate, and the exact spend needed to max the cap. That spend figure is your monthly budget for this card in this category.
- Optionally enter what you have already spent this month. The tool shows cashback earned so far and the headroom left before the cap fills.
- Once the cap is full, use the routing list: it shows the strongest cards in our catalogue for the same category, so the next rupee earns a real rate instead of the capped card base rate.
Frequently asked questions
What is a cashback cap on a credit card?
A cashback cap is the maximum cashback a card will pay in one statement cycle or calendar month, no matter how much you spend. SBI Cashback, for example, advertises 5% on online spends, but from April 2026 that 5% stops after Rs 2,000 of cashback, which means after Rs 40,000 of online spends in the cycle. Beyond the cap, spends earn only the low base rate or nothing extra at all.
How much do I need to spend to max the SBI Cashback Card cap?
Rs 40,000 of online spends fills the Rs 2,000 online cap at 5%. The offline cap is separate: Rs 2,000 at 1% needs Rs 2,00,000 of offline spends, which very few users will ever reach. Most SBI Cashback users should simply plan their big online purchases inside the Rs 40,000 monthly window and route the rest elsewhere.
Is the Eternal SBI Card Rs 2,000 cap per app or shared?
Shared. The 10% discount on Zomato, Blinkit and District draws from one common pool of Rs 2,000 per month. Spending Rs 20,000 across the three apps in any combination exhausts it; it is not Rs 2,000 on each app.
What should I do after my cashback cap is full?
Route the same category of spends to a second card whose cap is still empty or which pays a strong uncapped rate. The tool above suggests the best routing options from our verified catalogue for each category: online, dining, travel, bills and UPI, and fuel. Keeping two complementary cards is worth more than one headline rate with a small cap.
Why do banks advertise a high rate and then cap it?
The headline rate wins attention; the cap controls the bank cost. A 10% rate capped at Rs 1,200 a month costs the bank far less than an honest flat 2% on everything. Reading the cap, not the rate, is the single most useful habit in comparing cashback credit cards in India.
