Fee Waiver Tracker
Enter your card and your spends since your last card anniversary. The tracker shows your waiver target, how much you are short by, the monthly pace you now need, and the spends that do not count.
Annual fee on this card: ₹499 + GST = ₹589 a year.
Short by ₹2,00,000 of the ₹2,00,000 waiver target.
You need to spend about ₹66,667 per month for the next 3 months to get the fee reversed.
Behind pace: you are averaging about ₹0 per month, below the ₹66,667 needed.
Spends that usually do NOT count (as per the issuer MITC):
How the fee reversal actually works
The fee is charged first. On most cards the annual fee appears on the anniversary statement even when you have crossed the waiver spend; the reversal is processed afterwards, typically within 30 to 90 days, once the bank confirms the previous year spends.
Reversal is not a refund of GST in every case: some banks reverse the fee but the GST charged on it is handled as per their MITC, so check the statement after the reversal reflects.
Avoid a large transaction or a new card application in the days right after the fee posts until the reversal reflects. On some cards, notably SBI Card, activity or an outstanding balance in the reversal window has been known to delay or block the auto-reversal; if it does not reflect within two statements, raise a written request with the bank.

The fee you forget is the fee you pay
An annual fee waiver sounds generous until you look at the arithmetic. The thresholds are set just above what a typical holder spends, so a large share of cardholders miss the waiver every year and pay the fee plus 18% GST on cards they barely think about. The fee does not arrive with a warning; it lands on the anniversary statement, often in a month when you are not watching, and by the time you notice, the year to fix it has already closed. A Rs 499 fee is really Rs 589 with GST, a Rs 2,999 fee is Rs 3,539, and a Rs 10,000 premium fee is Rs 11,800 out of your pocket for a card whose waiver target you may have missed by a few thousand rupees of spends.
This tracker makes the invisible visible. It uses the exact waiver threshold printed in your card MITC, verified on 21 October 2026 for every card in the Credwiser catalogue, converts your remaining months into a simple monthly pace, and tells you plainly whether you are on track, behind pace, or holding a card whose fee no amount of spending will ever reverse. That last answer matters too: a surprising number of popular cards, including the Amex Gold and the HDFC Marriott Bonvoy card, have no waiver at all.
How to use the Fee Waiver Tracker
- Select your card. Only cards with an annual fee appear in the list; lifetime free cards have no fee to track.
- Enter your total spends since your card anniversary. Your bank app shows this in the card statements or the annual spend summary; add the statement totals from the anniversary month onwards.
- Select how many months are left until your next anniversary. The tracker converts your shortfall into the monthly spend pace you now need.
- Read the verdict and the exclusion list. If you are behind pace, route only the spends that count towards the threshold: excluded categories like rent, wallet loads and EMI conversions will not close the gap.
Frequently asked questions
What is a credit card annual fee waiver?
Most Indian credit cards charge an annual fee but promise to waive it if your total spends in the card year cross a stated threshold, for example Rs 2,00,000 on Axis Ace or Rs 3,00,000 on SBI Prime and ICICI Rubyx. Cross the threshold and the fee is reversed; miss it by even a small amount and the full fee plus 18% GST is payable.
Is the fee waived automatically, or charged first and reversed later?
Charged first, reversed later, on almost every card. The fee appears on your anniversary statement even in a year when you qualified. The bank then processes the reversal, usually within 30 to 90 days, after confirming your previous year spends. Do not panic at the fee line, but do track the reversal until it reflects, and raise a written request if two statements pass without it.
Which spends do not count towards the fee waiver target?
Banks exclude spends that are easy to manufacture. The Axis Bank MITC list is typical: rent, wallet loads, utilities, government institutions, EMI conversions, cash withdrawals, insurance, gold, fuel and gift cards do not count towards waiver thresholds. Other issuers keep similar lists. The tracker shows the exclusion list for your card issuer above.
Which popular credit cards have no fee waiver at all?
Several well known cards never reverse the fee, whatever you spend: American Express Gold and Platinum, HDFC Marriott Bonvoy, IDFC FIRST Mayura and Ashva, and the IndiGo Kotak cards are examples from our catalogue. On these cards the only question is whether the benefits return more than the fee plus GST every single year.
I missed the waiver target by a small amount. Will the bank make an exception?
Almost never through the app or a phone call. The threshold is applied by system rules, and frontline support has little discretion. A polite written request occasionally works for very old, high value relationships, but you should treat it as a bonus, not a plan. The reliable strategy is to check your pace with this tracker two or three months before the anniversary, while there is still time to route spends onto the card.
